Our Approach
Science at the Service of Protection
Agenda Antártica bridges cutting-edge Antarctic science with the policy and governance frameworks that can translate knowledge into protection. We support, disseminate, and advocate for research that addresses the most urgent threats to the continent and the Southern Ocean.
Our work connects researchers, policymakers, and civil society — ensuring that Antarctic science reaches the decision-makers who need it most.

Focus Areas
Key Scientific Priorities
Marine Protected Areas
Fewer than 2% of Southern Ocean waters are formally protected. Agenda Antártica advocates for the establishment and expansion of large-scale Marine Protected Areas through CCAMLR, working alongside ASOC and over 25 nations to advance conservation commitments in the East Antarctic and Weddell Sea.
MoreClimate & Southern Ocean Ecosystems
The Southern Ocean sustains a food web anchored by Antarctic krill — the foundation of one of the most productive marine ecosystems on Earth. We track how rising ocean temperatures, glacier melt, and changing ice dynamics threaten this system, translating science into policy advocacy.
MoreRenewable Energy in Antarctic Stations
Antarctic research stations currently rely heavily on fossil fuels. We track and promote progress in decarbonizing station energy systems across the continent — encouraging nations to adopt renewable alternatives that reduce the human footprint in one of the world's most pristine environments.
MoreMicroplastics & Pollution Research
Emerging research documents microplastic contamination reaching the deep Antarctic waters and entering the food web through krill and seabirds. We monitor and disseminate this research to inform global policy responses before pollution becomes irreversible at the poles.
MoreOperational Innovation & Applied Technologies
Collaborative initiatives with Antarctic national programs are advancing innovative operational solutions designed to improve efficiency, environmental monitoring, logistics, and sustainability across Antarctic activities. By integrating process innovation, artificial intelligence, agentic AI models, data analysis, and applied technologies, these efforts seek to optimize operations while strengthening the long-term protection of Antarctica's fragile ecosystems. These initiatives help explore smarter, adaptive, and data-driven approaches to the complex environmental and logistical challenges of Antarctic operations.
